Task 1(b) Futurism

Futurism

My understanding :
Futurism is an art movement that was created in 1909 that lasted until 1944. It's many artists were influenced by the modern era and how the world around them was changing to become a more modern society. They were also inspired by speed, noise, machines, pollution and city's as these were the main elements of the modern movement. The men and women that supported and used futurism in thier were work were highly known as part of a fascist group, as they wanted to show the people who viewed their work a different philosophy which was alternative to the philosophy that many people followed , which was attack the technology. This proved that they glorified war and believed it was cure so that the modern era could reign over the previous views of the public. Through their art it showed that the futurist embraced visual and performing arts , politics and advertising and that they saw their surroundings were shifting to a futuristic / modern world.

The social impact:
The artists through their work changed many peoples views on the modern direction the world was going in, however many people argued about this as people became comfortable with the era they were in. As the futurists were so open about their views on war and a huge majority  of the population were argumentative and offended by this view the artists of futurism shared. The futurists were fascinated by new technology and this helped more people to become introduced to these new technology and use it, the main new device that became the most popular was the camera.

An artist of futurism:
Giacomo Balla was a well known futurism artist, he was inspired by the works of  Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and Giacomo introduced futurism into his work. In 1910 he became a signatory to the futurists  manifesto as after that he designed futurist furniture and clothing.

His work:
In his work he uses very light colors in his work , such as pale blue and pale violet which create a morning and heavenly effect.  i particular like the second image as it evokes sensation heavenly rain, and for me it also links back to the fact that the futurists believed that modernism was taking over the era. The way these are futurists images is because the image is not straight forward and have hidden meanings and in the images. the images are also choppy and have different elements incorporated into the image. Subjects of the photographs are very different as one is a human and the other is a landscape, this is very common in his work and other futurists work.
